Two different kinds of build
Custom tools and agents are focused applications, not science projects. AI-assisted engineering and reusable parts make them faster to build well, with human review, testing, implementation and handover built in. You get a fixed quote once scope is agreed, with support arranged separately.
Some businesses want more than a one-task chatbot: a business assistant grounded in their own company, for everyday conversation, planning and drafting. Business context and memory are the foundation, not an upgrade charged per topic. As trust grows it can take on tools, schedules and actions, each needing scoped controls and a human sign-off.
An agent harness is the working environment around the AI: its knowledge, memory, tools and rules. I use Hermes Agent in my own business.
